Point Rock Park
Point Rock Park is the perfect spot to spend a morning (or afternoon) enjoying all that nature has to offer. The park offers over 25 acres of space and features two playgrounds for kids of all ages, a disc golf course, short hiking trails, and plenty of green space for relaxing or picnics. The Waukarusha River also runs through the park and is a beautiful spot to walk along. For a heartier stroll, complete the short loop through the woods. Mt Carroll Cafe
Mt Carroll Cafe is located in Historic Downtown across from the Courthouse and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner daily. The cafe has daily specials along with daily pie offerings. I stopped in for a hot chocolate and chocolate cream pie - clearly having a chocolate craving - and both were delicious. The establishment accepts cash or check only, so plan accordingly before dining. Pro tip: Ask for their daily pie selections - they are delicious! Address: 314 N Main St, Mt Carroll, IL
Carroll County Courthouse
The Carroll County Courthouse is the best spot to start your exploration of historic downtown Mount Carroll. From here, you can walk the grounds of the courthouse, see a beautiful Civil War memorial, head to the public library, browse the local shops, or grab a bite to eat. Make sure you check websites or call ahead before heading to a shop or restaurant as some have limited hours. While not open during my visit, Molly's Restaurant was highly recommended by all of the local residents. Pro tip: Many of the shops are open on the weekends only, but it's still fun to walk the cobblestone streets and window shop! Address: 301 N Main St, Mt Carroll, IL
Charlie’s II
Charlies II in historic downtown Mount Carroll is a local family-run burger and pizza pub that's worth the stop. With a huge bar and plenty of table seating, it's the perfect spot whether you are by yourself or with a large group. Aside from food and drinks, you can enjoy a game of pool or head to the back of the restaurant and bar for some slot machines. I ordered the mozzarella sticks and I highly recommend! Pro tip: This is a cash-only establishment! ATMs are available inside for a $3.75 fee. Address: 123 W Market St, Mt Carroll, IL
