Explore Lowell Park's winter woodland trails on snowshoes and learn how trees and wildlife get through the cold. Free; it becomes a guided winter hike if there isn't enough snow.
Head out on snowshoes along the woodland trails of Lowell Park in Dixon for an afternoon winter eco-tour. Along the way, the program looks at how trees go dormant, the strategies wildlife use to make it through the season and the basics of winter ecology.
The tour runs from 1 to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 16, and is free. It depends on the weather: if there isn't enough snow, it becomes a guided winter ecology hike instead. A second session is planned for Saturday, February 20. The program is offered by the Dixon Park District's Ruth Edwards Nature Center at Lowell Park; call (815) 284-3306 with questions.
